About Back of Beyond Books:
We are an independent bookshop in the market town of Sedgefield, County Durham and the first bookshop that Sedgefield has ever had. In March of 2025 we opened our doors for locals and travellers alike, brining a community together through a shared love of books. You can find all the best new releases and old favourites in the bookshop, as well as some more esoteric sections like our witch-lit section (curated by our founder who did her PhD in literary representations of historical witchcraft) and our Northern writers section which helps us champion local writers who we love. Every weekend, Local Baker Fusion Cake Haus does a book themed cake inspired by a different work of literature each week. We hold all kinds of events and book clubs which can be found below

Yes, we love our furry friends.
We do coffee and cake and on a weekend we have a book themed cake from Local Baker Fusion Cake Haus. We do not have a kitchen, however, so cannot do savoury food or scones.
At this time we can only support orders to be picked up in store and do not offer shipping. This may change in the future. You can order online through our Bookshop.org page by selecting us as your nominated bookshop. That way you can get your books online and we get a small commission.
We have a form in our Instagram bio for authors to submit if they think their book is something we should stock. You can also email us at Backofbeyondbooks@outlook.com
We are a curated bookshop and very small so we can’t stock everything, but we try to support local authors when we can.
Of course, we can order nearly anything as long as it is in print. Just get in contact via email, phone or social media or drop into the shop and we will try our best to assist you.
